June 2001

5 June - We turned off 101 Route 5 June over Columbia River to Washington. Scenery lots of trees (firs) like north Sweden. Not too much traffic on Route 30 east, but once we turned onto Route 5 north, that changed. Passed Seattle very heavy traffic, not many places to stop. By 5:15 Dusty was ratty. We found basic camping by a lake $18 just to park, but D was tried, he had driven 247 miles, a lot through heavy traffic.

6 June - On 6th June drove 65 milex north to Bellingham RV Park where we booked in for three nights. Tried to book ferry to Alaska from there, but it was fully booked, finally booked from Prince Robert B.C. £604 pricey but we reckoned it being once in a lifetime trip.

9 June - on 9 June, we booked into Bethusen Park woodland camping. The Warden was from Dutch stock, friendly. We met Hans & Dina ex-Dutch and a friendly couple from Surrey, B.C.. Shared campfires and talked, the weather was wet but under big trees we were sheltered. The little town was Lynden, windmills, shopping mall, tea shops. All little Holland.
We had to see a notary to get mail forwarding address notarised.

16 June - Saturday - We crossed into Canada. Beautiful scenery, over Devil's Highway, snow capped mountains, tunnels and fir trees. On a small camping we met Jim and Doris Nugent from Alabama, they cooked us a southern breakfast, we ate outside, bacon, sliced sausage, eggs, hot biscuits (like plain scones).

18 June - On 18th June, we had a knocking noise in van, pulled into Boston Bar. New gasket. CA$22 for part, CA $ 65 labour.

19 June - we followed Fraser Canyon, rugged and beautiful, followed T-iomsoul {?} river. We left highway to Green Lake woodland camping CA $12 £6 free wood for fires, great apart from mosquitoes.

20 June - On 20th still felt van wasn't good, so spent day £240 on bits and checks. 100% better after that
Pleasant run to Prince George then west on Route 16 to Vanderhoof. We decided to spend a week on small camping for Holiday Weekend.
